How can a district use cross-age peer mentoring to support students from historically underserved populations in gifted and talented? In this session you’ll hear how one DMPS High School incorporated a course in collaboration with selected feeder pattern schools. Hear firsthand from a few high school students involved. In the GT Leadership and Mentoring course, mentors help their mentees foster a positive attitude and enthusiasm for high level academic pursuits as well as increasing confidence and self-efficacy. The positive outcome for mentors is developing leadership skills, fostering empathy and patience for others, cultivating cultural capital, and expanding community connections.
