The association of specific social and emotional traits with giftedness informs college coursework, gifted program curricula, conference presentations, and an extensive body of popular literature. The jury, however, is still out on many of the traits that have traditionally been associated with giftedness. Perfectionism, anxiety, and depression all occur in gifted students, but are these students particularly prone to such risk factors? This session will summarize recent scholarship on the subject, enabling you to address concerns in the classroom and advise others on how to best support your students.
